There was no room for both of them in the empty and immense sky. One had to disappear into the other. As if they were people. As if the human mind had created them and they had disappeared from it. Black haze filled the empty skies once again in this morning of vivid recollection.&lt;/p&gt;

		Young men think about women the same way non-swimmers think about the sea. They have to jump in and swim; when and how depends much more on others than on themselves. They are posed many questions, but they have no patience to solve them. The word from which they expect an answer is salty and the ear that hopes to get it is thirsty.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Night fell quickly after a short day. The wind was blowing from the sea pushing everything in front like a drunken sailor who cannot find his ship.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		I was lying in the mill in my place on the stacked sacks listening to the shadows that the wind wrought as it played with the flame of the lantern.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		The door of the mill creaked and opened a bit. Nobody stepped inside, so I thought the wind had opened it. I went over to close it, but all of a sudden a soft and cold hand caught my arm. Jolted in fright, I dragged a girl with me into the mill. She looked like a fairy to me. From under a scarf and a loose black hair shone two beautiful female eyes. Attracted by the sweetness of her look, I came up to her and put my hands on her frozen cheeks. The warmth of my palms must have pleased her, yet her fear made her flinch. She shut the door unawares as she stepped backwards and, frightened, leaned against it.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		“Do not be afraid, fairy of the tempest,” I muttered to her, rejoicing in her presence. “It’s warm in here.” I took her to the hearth where Mother had baked bread in the afternoon and where the embers still glimmered in the ashes.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		She relaxed a bit and removed the scarf. Her long face, adorned with eyes which dominated it as stars dominate a clear night sky, peered from under a rolled, long black hair. The soft, red lips, perched above a small and pointed chin, just about hid an enigmatic smile. Her thin and elongate nose glimmered in the semi-darkness of the mill. When she took off her coat, I saw her body, slim and slender, quiver by the beat of her heart. Like a doe, caught in a trap, she bucked up, assessing the plight. The beauty of her eyes, the softness of her hands and the tenderness of her body mesmerised me.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		My body ached with lust that spilled into a strong desire to embrace her passionately. Yet, I stayed put, wondering what to do. If I hit on, she will take fright and flutter away like a bird. What am I supposed to do now?! She seemed to have notice that I was holding back and that realisation allayed her fear. We looked each other into the eyes. I saw that she liked me and that she, too, was beginning to be carried away by passion. She was quivering and her knees tottered.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Through the play of the shadows wrought by the flames of the lantern, a smile broke out on her lips. I stepped to her. She did not recoil: she was there, waiting for me.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		The storm stopped as if to make it possible to touch and lust to entwine. She closed her eyes slowly as if she was inviting me. Our hands glided towards each other and, joining in a passionate touch, went on to caress. Mine held her face, her shoulders and her loins. Hers caressed my hair and clasped in a grip of my neck.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		We edged on slowly towards the pile of stacked sacks. She reclined first and I came upon her. Our limbs locked and our bodies, bundles of throb and excitement, demanded intensity. She pulled up her skirt and from between her dancing legs shot her female nakedness. I saw it first time in my life and experienced excitement that would forever be the source of lust and desire from which passion would gush difficult to quash. I felt as if I had tamed the Rhine and embraced the starry skies. At the bottom of the swelling river I found the quiver of the Universe.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		We did not even notice that the storm had stopped. The light of the lantern spread evenly. I looked at her eyes wide open and calm like a man who had just regained consciousness. She was incongruously beautiful and unique.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		“Who are you, my love?” I asked her ready to take the oath.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		“Constance”, she said over the shoulder. “This was your first time. There, I got warm.” She repaired to the door, but came back. “Mother sent me to bring the dandelion and carob cake recipe to the Miller’s wife. Here, it’s written there. And who are you?”&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		“I am Rembrandt, student of the Latin University in Leiden and her son.”&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		“For complete love you must have everything: look, touch and time. The joy of that love is like the splendour of the Sun, and the grief for it is death,” said she and went through the door of the mill into the peaceful night.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		On the piece of paper, it was written:&lt;br /&gt;
		The dandelion and carob cake recipe.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Grind leaves of fresh dandelion in a glass of wine, red wine from the bottom of the barrel. Hope chooses the glass and patience fills it.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Pound carob, picked from the highest boughs of the tree, in the mortar and mix it with sweetened flour. Pour wine over the mixture in which dandelion has changed colour into surreal violet and knead it with warm water heated in the morning sun. Knead long until the dough evens out as if ripened in ashes. Bake the cake on the fire burning grapevine and fanned by the rustling salty wind of the northern seas. Eat only at dawn with red wine. It makes possible, it is said, to dream the same dreams many time.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		I got to know all answers at once. I licked as man’s dream the salty words containing the knowledge of a young man about the most important question of his life. Hence my tongue turned white as if I had licked fire. I found out what love for a woman is and, mesmerised by it, I sought it all my life.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		In the mill, Father learned to pick a sieve by looking at it. He could often sift a thought or a secret before he was said about them.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		This morning he entered the mill as if he had dreamed my dreams. He covered me with a coat and whispered into my ear:&lt;br /&gt;
		“Keep on sleeping, sweet hopes come out of sweet dreams. From now on, you will not dare forget what you have been confided.”&lt;/p&gt;

From a childhood spent in a mill, school days, love to Saskia and Titus, till the great tragedy which befell him, from which his spirit recovered, Rembrandt revives as a vibrant and positive character. Love for women, painting and his son intertwines with a gallery of characters who surround him in Amsterdam creating an image of the seventeenth century society. Petkovic describes Rembrandt as a sensitive, but a reasonable man, wondering over the creation and evanescence, and again as an energetic and a capable man. 		Mladići o ženama misle slično kao neplivači o moru. Moraju da skoče i zaplivaju, kako i kada, zavisi više od svih drugih nego od njih. Mnoga pitanja im se postavljaju a nemaju strpljenja da ih reše. Slana je reč od koje očekuju odgovor a žedan sluh koji im se nada.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Noć je nasledila kratak dan. Sa mora je duvao vetar i gurao sve pred sobom, kao pijani mornar kada ne može da pronađe svoju lađu.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Ležao sam u mlinu na svom mestu, na složenim vrećama, i osluškivao senke koje vetar stvara igrajući se sa plamenom lampe.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Škripnula su vrata mlina i malo se otvorila. Niko ne kroči u mlin te pomislih da ih je vetar otvorio. Priđoh da ih zatvorim, kad me iz mraka neka meka i hladna ruka uhvati za podlakticu. Trgoh se uplašen i uvukoh je sa sobom u mlin. Učini mi se kao vilinsko stvorenje. Ispod marame i rasute crne kose svetlucala su dva lepa ženska oka. Priđoh joj, privučen milinom njenog pogleda, i stavih joj ruke na promrzle obraze. Toplina mojih dlanova morala joj je prijati ali je strah natera da uzmakne. Leđima, slučajno, zatvori vrata a ona uplašena, pribi se uz njih.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Ne boj se, olujna vilo”, rekoh joj tiho, obradovan njenim prisustvom. „Ovde je toplo.“ Povedoh je do ognjišta na kome je majka tog poslepodneva ispekla hlebove, i gde je žar svetlucao u pepelu.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Malo se oslobodila i skinula maramu. Njeno izduženo lice, ukrašeno očima koje su gospodarile njime kao zvezde vedrim noćnim nebom, virkalo je ispod uvijene i duge crne kose. Iznad male i šiljaste bradice meke i rumene usne su bile na ivici zagonetnog osmeha. Nos, tanak i duguljast, svetlucao je u polumraku mlina. Kada skide ogrtač, videh da joj je tanko i krhko telo podrhtavalo pod otkucajima srca. Kao srna, uhvaćena u zamku, i sama je procenjivala ovaj trenutak. Milina njenog pogleda, mekota ruku i krhkost tela su me opčinili.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Nabrekla je u meni čežnja koja se preli u jaku želju da je strasno zagrlim. Istovremeno mi se postavljalo i pitanje: šta sada? Ako nasrnem na nju uplašiću je i odlepršaće mi kao ptica. Kako da postupim? Učini mi se da je otkrila moju nedoumicu. Tim saznanjem umiri svoj strah. Pogledasmo se oči u oči. Video sam da joj se dopadam i da nju obuzima zanos. Ustreptalu, lomio je drhtaj i kolena su joj klecnula.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Kroz igru senki, koje su titrale na plamenu lampe, pomaljao se osmeh na njenim usnama. Koraknuo sam prema njoj. Nije se izmakla. Naprotiv, rešila je da ostane. Da me sačeka da joj priđem. Nevreme kao da je zastalo da bi dodiru i čežnji omogućilo da se čuju. Lagano sklopi oči, kao da me dozva. Ruke su nam kliznule jedne prema drugima. Spojile se strasnim dodirom a potom prešle u milovanje. Moje su otišle na njeno lice, ramena i bedra. Njene su milovale moju kosu i na vratu se ukrštale u stisak.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Polako smo se pomerali ka gomili naslaganih vreća. Ona je pala prva a ja preko nje. Tela, upredena, tražila su žestinu. Sve je titralo oko nas. Suknja joj se beše povila, a između njenih razigranih nogu, bljesnu ženska nagota. To sam video prvi put u životu i doživeo takvo uzbuđenje da će ubuduće taj prizor biti najsnažniji izvor čežnje iz koje tutnji strast koju je teško umiriti. Istovremeno, kao da sam ukrotio Rajnu i zagrlio zvezdano nebo. U dubini nabujale reke pronašao sam titraj Vasione.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Nismo ni primetili da je oluja prestala. Svetlost lampe širila se ravnomerno. Pogledao sam je otvorenih očiju i mirnoćom tek osvešćenog muškarca. Bila je neskladno lepa i jedinstvena.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Ko si ti ljubavi moja”, pitao sam je spreman na zakletvu.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Konstanca”, reče mi preko ramena. „Tebi je ovo bilo prvi put. Eto ugrejala sam se”, i pođe prema vratima, ali se vrati. „Majka me je poslala da mlinarevoj ženi donesem recept za kolač sa maslačkom i rogačima. Evo tu je zapisano. A ko si ti?”&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Ja sam Rembrant, student „Latinskog univerziteta“ u Lajdenu i njen sin.”&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Za potpunu ljubav moraš imati sve: pogled, dodir i vreme. Radost te ljubavi je kao sjaj Sunca, a žalost za njom je smrt.” Ode kroz vrata mlina u mirnu noć.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Na komadiću hartije pisalo je:&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Recept za kolač od maslačka i rogača.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Listiće svežeg maslačka izmrviti u čaši vina, crnog sa dna bačve. Čašu bira nada a toči strpljenje.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Rogač, nabran sa najviših grana drveta istucaš u avanu i pomešaš sa zaslađenim brašnom. Sve to preliti vinom u kome je maslačak promenio boju u nestvarno ljubičastu i zamesiti toplom vodom ugrejanom na jutarnjem suncu. Mesiti dugo, dok se ne ujednači kao da je u pepelu zrelo. Kolač se peče na vatri gde gore grančice vinove loze i kroz koju šušti slani vetar severnih mora. Jede se samo u zoru sa crnim vinom. Omogućava, kažu, da se isti snovi sanjaju više puta.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Sve odgovore saznao sam odjednom. Slane reči koje sadrži saznanje mladog muškarca o najvažnijem pitanju u njegovom životu olizao sam kao muški san. Od njega mi je pobeleo jezik kao da sam vatru lizao. Saznao sam šta je ljubav prema ženi i opčinjen time čitavog svog života tragao za njom.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		U mlinu, otac je naučio da pogledom bira sito. Mogao je često da proseje neku misao ili tajnu pre nego što mu je kažeš.&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		Ovo jutro ušao je u mlin kao da je sanjao moje snove. Pokrio me je kaputom i tiho mi šapnuo na uvo:&lt;/p&gt;
	&lt;p&gt;
		„Samo spavaj, iz slatkih snova proiziđu i slatke nade. Od sada nećeš smeti da zaboraviš ono što ti se u poverenju kaže.”&lt;/p&gt;
